Remove duplicate phone numbers rules
India’s mobile numbers are 10 digits long, and the 0 in front of a number is a trunk prefix for long-distance dialling, which is why it can be dropped. TRAI’s 2020 numbering report lists mobile series allocated under the levels 6, 7, 8 and 9. The cleaner follows those facts in this order:
- Cut the formatting. Spaces, dashes, dots and brackets are removed.
- Cut the prefix. A leading +91 or 0091, a 91 in front of 10 more digits, or a single 0 in front of 10 digits is removed.
- Check the length. What remains must be exactly 10 digits.
- Check the first digit. It must be 6, 7, 8 or 9; anything else is usually a landline with its STD code.
- Compare. Two lines with the same 10 digits are duplicates, and only the first is kept.
A line can hold several cells, such as name, mobile and city copied from a sheet. Every valid mobile in the line is kept, and a date or pin code beside it does not make the line invalid.

- Indian mobiles only. International numbers and landlines are reported as invalid. They are not converted.
- One number per customer. If a customer gave two different mobiles, both are kept; the tool cannot know they belong to one person.
- No checking with the network. A number can have the right shape and still be switched off or no longer in use.
- Large files. Files up to 10 MB are read in the browser. For bigger exports, split the file or import it into a CRM that handles duplicates on its side.
